Oil pulling works by detoxifying or cleansing the body.  In this way, disease promoting toxins are removed, thus allowing the body to heal itself.  As a consequence, health problems of all types improve.  Some users have reported a remarkable decrease in sugar cravings, resulting in weight loss!  As I have noted on some posters that I’ve shared with you, coconut oil revs up your metabolism and slows absolution of carbohydrates when used in your favorite drink first thing starting your day.  Hey, why not start off with a BANG by using coconut oil for oil pulling then adding 1 Tbsp. of it to your green tea, oolong tea, black coffee or other favorite drink; so that you’re not only doing an early morning total detox, but you’re fastening your teeth, cleaning your mouth, getting a hefty dose of vitamin A and omega-3 essential fatty acids along with boosting your metabolism and energy level to help conquer whatever tasks lie before you for the day?  Oil pulling will provide the best and quickest results when it is done on an empty stomach.   Having food in your stomach tends to cause nausea as the body is working in overdrive pulling the toxins from your circulatory system while at the same time trying to digest your foods as well.  It can be repeated three times each day to speed up the healing process, but should ALWAYS  be done before meals. Therefore, give yourself 3-4 hours after eating depending on how heavy the meal was previously before you OP (Oil Pull).  Studies have shown that around a two month period of OP, arthritis shows great improvement and in some cases had completely disappeared.  There have been reports of people using oil pulling who have reported as much as a 50% decrease in the amount of gray hair and their hair turning back to their normal youthful color! Can you imagine the money saved on boxes of hair dye and salon expenses?  Oil pulling will increase your energy levels and aide in healthy digestion of foods, but to get the full effects may take six to eight weeks. Oil pulling has helped in decreasing and even stopping chronic halitosis, in many instances the decrease in bad breath has been noticed within a few days of using this process. The effects of oil pulling seems to differ by individual as does the amount of time it takes to see noticeable results. The same effects aren’t accomplished in everyone, some have had an increased libido (Imagine That!), vanished headaches, faded age spots and relief for many other ailments.

Most people notice the health improvements within two weeks of beginning the oil pulling process. The typical benefits most experience include whiter teeth, better breath, better body odor, less joint pain and improved energy.  Personally, I have noticed more energy directly afterwards, whiter teeth, improved resting states where I tend to suffer from insomnia and the decrease of halitosis.  Taste wise, I prefer using coconut oil, but I notice better results such as my teeth feeling cleaner when I use sesame oil.  So, I’ve started using ½ tablespoon of sesame oil and ½ tablespoon of coconut oil with the addition of a few drops of either peppermint or lemon essential oil.  Sesame oil has antimicrobial benefits and is proven to be effective against the strep (streptococcus) mutant.  I have been diagnosed to be what is called a “staph carrier” and in childhood I suffered from “strep throat” so many times, that what is left of my tonsils look like craters on the moon, with all the indentions.   Thereby making sesame oil one of my must-use personal choices.   The long-term benefits are invaluable as this may be one of the best strategies for reducing chronic disease risk.  More significant and noticeable benefits will manifest months later, including a possible end to medical conditions that have plagued you for years.


Oil pulling has been scientifically shown to substantially reduce problematic Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Global Healing Center states:

“Another study [published in the African Journal of Microbiology Research], conducted in 2008 found a ‘remarkable reduction in the total count of bacteria” in the mouth, and an overall marked reduction in susceptibility dental cavities. The antibacterial activity of sesame oil was also studied and found to have an effect on the Streptococcus mutans in the mouth. In fact, these studies showed an overall reduction of bacteria from 10 to 33.4 percent in participants, and after 40 days of oil-pulling, participants were found to show 20 percent in average reduction in oral bacteria.  The mouth contains a wide variety of bacteria, but only a few specific species of bacteria are believed to cause dental caries: Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacilli among them. Particular for root caries, the most closely associated bacteria frequently identified are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Actinomyces viscosus, and S. mutans.  These bacteria collect around the teeth and gums in a sticky, creamy-coloured mass called plaque.’”
